JC files corruption case against former judge Upadhyay

Kathmandu, June 2 The Judicial Council nowadays filed a corruption case against former district judge Omkar Upadhyay, alleging that his bachelor degree certificate obtained from Kanpur University, India, was fake. The JC has sought a jail term from six months to one year, and a fine from Rs 10, 000 to 20,000 against Upadhyay, said Special Court Spokesperson Shovepa Raj Panday. Upadhyay resigned from his post a few days ago after a probe committee was formed under the Supreme court Justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai to investigate the genuineness of his academic certificates and measure of the orders passed by him in lawsuits. Information Officer of JC Teknath Gautam told THT that the JC had appointed High Court Judge Ramesh Kumar Pokharel as an investigation officer to probe allegation against Upadhyay. Based on Pokharel report, the JC filed a corruption case against Upadhyay at the Special Court. This is the moment time that the JC has filed a corruption case against a sitting or a former judge.
